Green Facts about Los Angeles
- In 2003, LA became the first city to require that city-owned buildings be built to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) specifications, the internationally recognized standard for constructing environmentally friendly buildings.
- LA has the highest solid waste recycle rate of any large American city (62%). Source.
- When you drive a hybrid vehicle in LA, you park for free at all city-owned meters.
- The Los Angeles Convention Center is the largest solar-generating building in North America.
- LA’s celebrity chefs are leading the charge for sustainable food and environmentally healthful restaurant practices.
- You can shop ‘til you drop for eco-friendly products in LA. From designer shoes made from tree sap to contemporary furniture crafted from recycled materials, green is in style all over town.
- Nearly 10% of all LA's energy comes from renewable resources, including solar and wind power.
For those that live in LA, the cost of fuel and electricity rising rapidly from already high levels is a harsh reality. Affordable, renewable alternatives are poised to make a substantial positive impact. SunMaxx Solar offers many solar hot water products, including the SunMaxx TS20 and the SunMaxx TS30. These thermosyphon systems require no pumps or electronics to operate. Simply install one of these systems for your home, facing the system toward the ample California, to reduce your dependance on fossil fuels while enjoying free hot water.

Operational Basics of a Solar Thermosyphon System:
Through the process of natural convection, hot water rises and cold water sinks. This is the main principle behind the operation of a Thermosyphon System. Cold water sinks from the storage tank at the top of the unit, into the evacuated tubes. In the tubes, that cold water is heated, rising back up into the storage tank as it increases in temperature. Throughout the day, all of the cold water within the Thermpsyphon System will be heated in this way.
