Solar Thermal Workshop Los Angeles, California January 9th, 2009

Los Angeles CA Solar Hot Water Workshop

Specific location and time TBA.

Los Angeles has a vast amount of natural open space (more than 214,000 acres) including the nation’s largest municipal park (4,014 acre Griffith Park) plus 22 miles of beaches in addition to countless parks and recreation areas. LA’s top nature reserves include the 153,095-acre Santa Monica National Recreation Area and the 55,000-acre Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy.

Green Facts about Los Angeles

  1. In 2003, LA became the first city to require that city-owned buildings be built to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) specifications, which are the internationally recognized standard for constructing environmentally friendly buildings.
  2. LA has the highest solid waste recycle rate of any large American city, at 62%. Source.
  3. When you drive a hybrid vehicle in LA, you park for free at all city-owned meters.
  4. The Los Angeles Convention Center is the largest solar-generating building in North America.
  5. LA’s celebrity chefs are leading the charge for sustainable food and environmentally healthful restaurant practices.
  6. You can shop ‘til you drop for eco-friendly products in LA. From designer shoes made from tree sap to contemporary furniture crafted from recycled materials, green is in style all over town.
  7. Nearly 10% of all LA's energy comes from renewable resources, including solar and wind power.

For those that live in LA, the cost of fuel and electricity rising rapidly from already high levels is a harsh reality. However, affordable renewable alternatives are poised to make a big impact. SunMaxx Solar offers solar hot water products such as the SunMaxx TS20 and the SunMaxx TS30. These thermosyphon systems require no pumps or electronics in order to operate. Installing one of these systems for your home, facing the system towards the ample California sun, will reduce your dependance on fossil fuels and allow you to enjoy free hot water.

SunMaxx TS20

Operational Basics of a Solar Thermosyphon System:

Through the process of natural convection, hot water rises and cold water sinks. This principle plays a significant role in the operation of a Thermosyphon System. Cold water sinks from the storage tank at the top of the unit, into the evacuated tubes. In the tubes, the cold water is heated, rising back up into the tank as it increases in temperature. Throughout the day, all of the cold water within the Thermpsyphon System will be heated in this way.

Silicon Solar offers a number of seminars throughout the year to assist homeowners, small business owners, and renewable energy dealers and installers in learning basic and advanced concepts and techniques for Solar Electric (PV) Systems, Solar Thermal (Hot Water and Hot Air) Systems and Wind Energy Systems.

These seminars and workshops are designed to help newcomers to the renewable energy field get a basic, or advanced understanding of the different renewable energy options that are available and how these different systems can be applied at home or around the office to save hundreds or even thousands of dollars a year in energy costs, and to help renewable energy dealers and installers stay up to date on the latest renewable energy equipment, news, industry trends and sales techniques.

Silicon Solar Seminars are great for anyone interested in renewable energy, regardless of their knowledge level at the start of the seminar. Even those who have only heard the words solar energy, wind energy, or solar hot water will leave our seminars with an understanding of how renewable energy will help them save money, how these same systems can help save the environment, and what renewable energy options are available and affordable on any budget.
